Information Shared At The 2023 Parents Meeting
President’s Points
- Board is all volunteers. Please be patient with us.
- The swimmer coaches are all volunteers. Please treat them with respect.
- The head coach and the assistant coaches are incredible. When I talk to past and present Wahoos, the coaches are their favorite part of the Wahoos.
- The past three years have been tough, not only on our children but for us as parents. Let’s be an example of community. Reach out to the families around you, encourage your children to introduce themselves to new friends. It is hard to be the new kid (and new family), take the first step and say hi. And while I love swim, what I love the most about the Wahoos is the sense of community.
- If your child is not having fun, reach out. Summer swim should be 50% fun/50% swim
- Email [email protected] or post in FB group for best response. Do not reply to swimtopia emails.
- We do our best to keep the website up to date. If you are confused, or something seems off, let us know. You are probably not the only one.
- All communication is done via Swimtopia. Download the App for alerts as well as your events. If you do not download the app, you will get alerts via emails.

Be ready to swim at the start of practice. The first 10 minutes are for dryland warm-ups. This is not the time to be putting on caps and goggles. Be prepared to swim. I understand things happen and mornings are tough but showing up on time is respectful of your teammates and coaches.
Coaches will not force a swimmer in the water. They will encourage.
Adult supervision of 10 and under. Please be on time to pick up your swimmers.
Download Swimtopia ICO inclement, to include during practice.
No deck changes.
Practices are adapted to swimmer. They will move up and down lanes. This does not mean they are not improving, it just means they are working on different skills.
No parent coaching during practice, let the coaches handle kids. They will let you know if they need help. Approach the coaches after your child’s practice if you need to talk to them. It is a safety issue, please do not distract coaches during practice.
Only require goggles, long hair requires cap.
We reserve the right to cancel due to temperatures and weather out of respect of our swimmer coaches.
Day of the life of a Meet
Part of the Wahoos, is developing the whole swimmer. Teaching them self-reliance, courage, and resiliency. They will learn how to get themselves to their events, how to conquer fear on those blocks, and how to come back after a setback. Let the coaches coach, allow their teammates to encourage, demonstrate good sportsmanship, and teach them how to be self-sufficent.
At practice they get their events and donuts. We are a team. Events are selected on child’s ability, child’s development, a team points. Coach Cessi is a master seeder, don’t mess with the process. She knows what she is doing. Check with the coaches BEFORE you leave, due to relays. Some relays are at the very end. Your relay cannot race if all members are not present.
There will be a showtime to the meet. Monday or Tuesday prior to the meet more details about away meets. Home meets open at 4:45. Parking sucks. Be prepared.
Parents who are volunteering, check in with volunteer rep as soon as you arrive.
Write your child’s events on their arm with sharpie. Best to do it prior to arrival. Don’t forget your speed button. Include Event #, what they are swimming, heat and lane.
Recommend bringing: Bug spray, sun block, chairs, shade, food, water, $ for snacks, permanent markers.
Clerk of course. If your child is feeling scared or timid, prior to the race. Let the coaches and their friend works their magic.

END OF THE SEASON SWIM PARTY:
JULY 23rd 6:15pm -9pm at the Woodlands Pool (More information to come)
Wahoos Are Back!!!
We are so excited to have a Woodland Wahoos season this year. The coaches and the board are committed to maintaining the ideals of summer swim team: 50% swim/50% fun. At the end of the summer, each swimmer should improve their strokes and increase their endurance. Each swimmer should have laughed and had a good time with peers. Each swimmer should have enjoyed the feeling of getting out of the pool, feeling tired but refreshed.
At this time we cannot tell you exactly what the season will look like. It will run from the Tuesday May 30th to July 22nd.
I want you to remember that every board member has children on the team and is volunteering their time. While execution might not be the same as it has been in the past, I can assure you our desired end state is the same: SWIM AND FUN.
Your Wahoos Board
General Information For Those Who Want To Join!
Our swim season begins the Tuesday after Memorial Day and it ends the July 22nd with a party on July 23rd. The kids practice M-F in the mornings at Woodlands Pool. We have swim meets once a week from June through the end of July - typically our meets are in the middle of the week in the evenings (think Wednesdays, 5-10pm). We end the season with a huge championship meet that runs almost all day on July 22nd. The meets are staffed by parent/guardians . Volunteering to work at the meets is MANDATORY. The shifts usually last a couple hours. Parents/Guardians are asked to cover 4-6 sessions during the season. Descriptions of the different volunteer positions can be found in the Volunteer tab at the top of this page. All are welcome to join. Our older swimmers (age 11-18) swim 50 meters (2 laps) in competition, while our younger swimmers swim 25 meters (1 lap) in competition. We have an AMAZING group of coaches with work on endurance training as well as specific stroke instruction. Our team is made up of a great mix of kids - some members are year around swimmers while some members have never been on a swim team before. Registering for the team is done entirely online, make sure you check our website for important dates, as our swim groups fill fast...especially the younger age groups. As of now, we are expecting our New Swimmer Registration to take place April 1. Hope this gives you a little bit of insight into our team - please feel free to contact us with any questions - and check back often for new information! Registration Cost: $165.00 for first swimmer with a one-time Family Admin Fee of $25.00 total $190.00 for the season for one swimmer.
