Volunteer Information

Hello Wahoo Families!

I wanted to touch base and give you all a little more specific information about volunteering at the swim meets.

Here is a link to all the job descriptions through the Wahoos Website:

Position Description - Woodland Wahoos

Below is a link to all the training information for the “trained” positions, as well as instructions on how to waive training due to certification through another team. You will also find the link for “Safe Sport,” a requirement for Safety Marshall.

Training Info - RSL Swimming

Job sign-ups will open on the Thursday before the meet at 9AM and close on the Sunday prior to the meet at 6PM. If you are available to work, but all the jobs are full, email me at [email protected].

We understand that volunteering during a meet can be difficult for some families, but there are options that do not require spending time on deck. These options will be limited in order to ensure our ability to run the meet. They include:

  • Magic Donuts: Buying donuts for all the swimmers, coaches, and lifeguards the morning of a meet at practice. Depending on the session you are buying for will determine the number of donuts required. Everyone loves this option, so it will be limited to 1 time per season. If you are going to go to Shoppers for donuts (a team favorite), they request you call the night before and preorder.
  • Pizza for the coaches: Another volunteer with your wallet option. It is exactly what you think it is: buy and bring, or have delivered, pizza for coaches. At home meets include the lifeguards at Woodlands, too. (Limited to 1 time per season)
  • Ice for the concessions: Buy and bring ice for the concessions booth. This is only available for home meets. (Limited to 1 time per season)
  • Set up: Come at 4PM and help with set up prior to the meet.
  • Tear Down: Stay until the end, or take your little swimmers home and come back (this is what I often did in years past).

We are so excited for the Summer Swim Season to start! I hope you all look at the volunteer obligation as an opportunity to connect with the other families of Wahoos and not a chore. We do realize that things come up and emergencies happen, but in order to ensure participation the penalty for not volunteering will be that your child will be scratched from the meet. The way that will work is, if you haven’t volunteered by the 3rd meet your child will be scratched and will not be allowed to swim until you have volunteered. That said, volunteer early and often. We will hold you accountable, but we are parents/volunteers also so you can expect a level of grace and understanding as we all want to make the best season possible for our Wahoo Swimmers!

See you on deck!
